Well, contrary to the weather forecast it’s been a lovely weekend – dry and breezy, just what the paddock needed to help dry it out. It needs a good week of this though as it is still waterlogged in places, because of this we had to take down and move the main marquee to a new position as the ‘grass’ inside was more mud than anything else. Fortunately it just fits between the green hut and the platform and is now re-erected ready for next weekends Vintage Vehicle event when Shadows Music and Jive Express are performing on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Don’t forget our Real Ale tent will also be in action so come down by train to see the vehicles and miniature traction engines, listen to the music and enjoy a drink or two. Weighbridge Teas and the Tea Hut will both be open during the weekend as well.
At the level crossing we have completed installing the new north east white wicket gate and brought it into use late on Sunday afternoon. This followed completion of the fencing adjustments, collecting and spreading ash on site to provide a temporary surface, making and installing a ‘clapping’ post for the gate to close up against, together with fitting and adjusting the hinges to suit. A bit more work is required before we can say the job is fully complete.
We have worked with our railway’s Safety Manager to produce an updated set of risk assessments for the level crossing to take account of this new gate as well as reviewing those risks relevant to the rest of the crossing.
North of the station we have collected some of the cut down logs to help keep the home fires burning and tidy up the site.
We have a new signal! Following delivery of the overhauled and rebuilt North Eastern shunt signal by the S&T from their north east workshop we have taken it down to its new position. Hopefully it will be commissioned later this year once the block system has been changed over.
